3D187 – Paper Dimensions

by Taylor Usry on October 23, 2012

Hi everyone!  It’s Taylor here today, to host this week’s 3D challenge.  This week I’m challenging you to create a card (or altered project, since this is the 3D challenge!) that has not just dimension, but depth!  Think about the paper tole technique – basically, you stamp several of the same image, fussy cut, and shape the layers to help them take on a realistic form. Sounds complicated, but it can be as easy as you want it to be!

I used foam tape in different heights to adhere my petals, and even glued some edges directly to the “base image” (popping up the opposite side, so it gave the impression the petals were coming from underneath.  Here’s a look at how I made the whole card:

  • Cut card base and panels to desired size from card stock
  • Stamp single rose; color as desired with alcohol markers.
  • On separate card stock, stamp petal portion several times, color as desired and fussy cut petal individually.
  • Arrange on top of original rose, using foam tape to add dimension.
  • Stamp Rose Cluster image on left side of one panel. On another smaller panel, stamp sentiment.
  • Sprinkle both Shabby Pink and Aged Black embossing enamels directly on to card stock, heat set from underneath.
Adhere all panels to card base.
  • For single rose as well as small sentiment panel, use foam tape.
  • Add ribbon/clip to rose panel.

So, this week I’m challenging you to create a paper 3D element on your project, that has some shape and dimension!  Don’t just pop it up on foam tape…use our bone folder or water spritzer to give it some shape, too!  Use the keyword 3D187 when you upload to the gallery.  And have fun!
