GIVEAWAY and Tutorial: Dreamweaver Stencils Double Paste Technique

by Susanna on July 19, 2012

Hi, it’s me, Cherylynn, back again with another Dreamweaver tutorial. And this time, its extra special because I am sharing with you one of the BRAND NEW designs just introduced at CHA this week, LJ923 Mittens.

To begin, I stamped Impression Obsession’s L6285 Gingham Stamp with Brilliance Pearlescent Thyme on a piece of Kraft cardstock and heat set it with my heat gun.

Then I placed my LJ923 Mitten stencil on top and taped it securely to the cardstock. Since I only wanted a portion of the mitten to be red, I masked off the cuff with tape.

Next I applied Dreamweaver’s Glossy Red Embossing Paste to the unmasked area, removed the stencil and then generously sprinkled red flocking over the wet paste. (For detailed instructions on how to apply embossing paste, check out Dreamweaver’s Technique page.) When using flocking I like to use a background paste that is as close to the color of the flocking so it gives it more depth and better color coverage.

I then placed that onto my warm pancake griddle so the paste would dry while I cleaned off my stencil. After it was dry, I repositioned the stencil and masked off the red mittens. Then I applied Glossy White paste for the cuff and laces and sprinkled white flocking over that.

Once that was dry, I mounted it onto a piece of red cardstock and then a border punched Hunter Green cardstock. I created a banner sentiment from a Hero Arts set using Brilliance Pearlescent Thyme to create the final project:

The end result is fun to look at AND fun to feel! And as you can see, very easy to do. It takes a few extra minutes because of the double-pasting but the end result is so worth it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this project, it was a lot of fun to make. Feel free to email me if you have questions.

Cute card — I have never used flocking but it certainly suits this winter card and sentiment. My stencil pick would be LJ906 Maple Branch– great to use for fall cards.
