GIVEAWAY & Dreamweaver Thursday: Paper Piecing with a Stencil

by Susanna on July 5, 2012

Welcome back for another Dreamweavers Thursday Tutorial. This week I’m going to be sharing how to use your Dreamweavers stencils to paper piece.  You’ll be thrilled with the result, as the paper is also embossed and and offers so much more dimension than traditional paper piecing with stamps.

Before we get to the tutorial, lets announce the winner from Wendy Jordan’s Double Glitter tutorial and giveaway two weeks ago.  Congratulations Janet Nelson!

Congratulations to Janet NelsonYou are the lucky winner!  Be sure to  email lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com with your address so she can get your Mosaic Swirls (LJ901) stencil off in the mail to you. Enjoy!

Lynell sent me this Apron stencil (LG73) and I knew right away that I wanted to make some recipe cards or a recipe notebook.  Here’s how I started the card:

First, gather your paper pieces, your stencil, a pen or pencil and some scissors.

You’ll also need:

  • a manual die cut machine (I used the Big Shot)
  • glue
  • embellishments (optional)

Next, trace the back side of your stencil image on the BACK side of your patterned paper.

Trim around your pattern and lay out your image to see if you need to make any adjustments.

Emboss your background paper (I used white) using your manual die cut machine.

For the Big Shot, the sandwich you will use is:

  • Base plate
  • stencil (make sure the side with the item number and Lynell’s name is face down)
  • paper/cardstock (helps to spritz the back lightly with rubbing alcohol for a deeper emboss)
  • embossing mat
  • TWO clear plates (Do not use ones that have been warped from cutting. The use of the two plates on top helps to protect your stencil.)

Check out how deep of an embossed image you get! (I was out of rubbing alcohol too — so this is just the sandwich!)

Adhere your paper pieces to the image and embellish as desired.  Here’s my finished cookbook.
