DIY Bangle Holiday Decorations

by Deb Felts on December 10, 2011

I’m so excited to be making my first post as a Supernova, and really thrilled to share some fun projects with you!

After seeing Wendy’s DIY Bangles bracelet projects, I was really looking forward to receiving some of their product to play with! They sent me some 9 inch and 14 inch wreath forms, and I had a great time creating a few holiday decorations!

First up are some of Kim Hughes’ Swanky Snowdudes, gathered around a ring of cinnamon sticks embellished with snowflakes and textured snow. The finished diameter of this wreath is approximately 28 inches. I love its warm, country-Christmas feel!

I couldn’t resist making an elegant “tutu wreath,” and another cutesie one, too, using the 9 inch forms! A gorgeous Moroccan snowflake ornament made a perfect focal point for a sprinkling of jewels. To make it, I simply cut a length of tulle, brought the ends together, placed the loop under the form and passed the ends through it, pulling it snug. Repeat the process until the entire form is completely covered, then trim it if necessary. I left this first one rather loose and relaxed. (Of course, I won’t be leaving this delicate wreath outside! Just needed natural light for the photo!)

My final project features a pair of Our Craft Lounge’s Parka Penguins skating on “Mirror Lake” up at the North Pole! ;) For this wreath, I cut two different lengths of tulle (both shorter than the ones for the other wreath), inserting the shorter lengths about every 5th loop. I continued around the form, filling it as tightly as possible so that it would be really fluffy and full. Once finished, I added some iridescent mesh ribbon atop the tulle at intervals to add some sparkle.

I cut two slopes of snow from white card stock, sprayed them with some pearly shimmery Smooch Spritz, then added Martha Stewart tinsel glitter along the edges. A very fine line of glue in a figure-eight shape, sprinkled with glitter forms the penguins’ skate-prints on the ice. Their parkas are colored with Copic markers in bright pink and green with Sugar Sparkly Fluff hoods. A bright bow to match, adorned with a giant snowflake, brings another pop of color.

Both tulle wreaths required a loop of some sort to hang, but the cinnamon stick ring needs no alteration as the wreath form provides its own edge to sit atop a nail. If you’re using a traditional picture hanger on your wall, it would be wise to add a saw tooth hanger or wire-wrap a loop to the wreath form before you begin.

Check out Pinterest for lots of other ideas for how to use DIY’s wreath forms…there are so many beautiful options! I have a few pinned to get your mojo going!

These wreaths are just awesome. I just love both kinds a lot, and the white one really symbols christmas and snow I think, but ofcause the ciinnamon does too LOL, both kinds are sooooo gorgeous.

Wouldn’t the cinnamon stick one be lovely for its scent? Both of these are beautiful and give me great ideas of my own!

LOVE these wreaths! I actually have some of those wooden wreath forms from DIY Bangles. Can you tell me how long you cut the strips of tulle for the first wreath? And about how much tulle would I need to get??
