It’s Sketch Challenge Time – Whimsie Doodles’ Style

by Lynn Mercurio on January 22, 2011

Hey there all you crafty people!  I’m happy to be hosting the Saturday Sketch Challenge this week on Paper Craft Planet. Whimsie Doodles, that great place to find all the digital images you could want, is sponsoring the new challenge this week!

In March of 2009, Melyssa Connolly – artist and owner, began turning her whimsical ,hand-drawn images into digital files for sale online. Whimsie Doodles’ digital stamp line features images that range from cute little boys and girls, to punny stuff, and everything in-between. They also have a company blog where they share lots of samples, post weekly challenges and have tutorials to get you started.  Be sure to stop by and let them know we appreciate their sponsorship of the sketch challenge this week on PCP.

All those participating in this week’s sketch challenge will be entered into a drawing for the awesome prize that Whimsie Doodles is offering; the choice of Two (2) Images from their January Release (images can all be seen here: http://www.whimsiedoodles.com/whats-new.html) A winner will be selected by random drawing from all those participating.  You have until next Friday to get busy, so, if you are ready, here is the sketch for this week.  You may flip or rotate the sketch to suit your creative muse so don’t feel like you have to use the sketch as is.

For my project today, I chose to use an adorable little penguin image from Whimsie Doodle called Penguin Hugs.

I printed this cute little penguin image and sweet sentiment onto white cardstock using my laser printer and color him with Copic Markers.  I added some red stickles to his hat to add a little wintertime shimmer. To add a little more bling I attached a few Hero Arts crystals along the scalloped edge.

Using a scallop border punch, I created the scalloped edge that I used along the bottom of the image as well as to accent my horizontal panel.  To add a little dimension to the “kisses” on this image, I first colored with Copics and then added a layer of Glossy Accents.

As an added bonus, Whimsie Doodles has a special offer for Paper Craft Planet Sketch Challenge Fans – use the discount code PCP10 at the Whimsie Doodles online store and receive 10% off your next order! SWEET!

I hope you have been sufficiently inspired to play along with the sketch challenge this week…it could just get you free images! To upload your direct link to your project, click on the Inlinkz icon below:
